Day 4 - Let's Talk About TrainingThe idea of training law enforcement has been highly criticized and widely talked about. There has been heated debate, and passionate discussion. If we concede that training is necessary, or at least give in to the fact that it will be pursued (for whatever reason) I think it may be worthy of some thought, in Ethan's name, and discussion as to what we think that training should look like.
This week (and I apologize for being a little late in posting) I'm asking everyone to imagine. If you were handed an unlimited budget from the training fairies, what would you do with it? How would non-biased, non-stigmatization, non-prejudiced training be designed? What would it look like? If you could say anything to law enforcement and first responders as a captivated audience, what would YOU say? Would it be you, or would you want the words to come from someone else? |
The "powers that be" have asked for input from the affiliate organizations regarding the training design, but I'm asking individual, forward thinking, moms and dads. Those of us with no strings attached, whose only agenda is making the world better for our sons and daughters. Let's be part of the process. Let's gather our "wish list" and explain what WE think law enforcement and people in the general public need to know (I'm guessing palm creases aren't all that important.) You can post your training ideas here, blog about them and post a link here, or send them to me via email and I'll post them.
As a side note: Did everyone see that Tom Perez, the person at the Department of Justice that we were told to contact, and then told NOT to contact, actually had other things on his mind besides #JusticeForEthan? He's "President Obama's nominee for Labor Secretary" and his confirmation is scheduled for next week. Maybe we also need to contact NDSC's Susan Goodman and ask "What's Next"? Does this have any impact on the future of the investigation? Let her know we're paying attention and ask for some clarification.
Have a great and productive week everyone! And don't forget the event next week - We Remember Ethan!
