Thought I'd do a weekly summary of my posts this month since I'm participating in the #31 for 21 challenge. This activity involves writing a blog post every day for the month of October to help in the efforts of Down syndrome Awareness Month. There are lots of really great posts to read out there this month!
This week was "All About Josh" on Walkersvillemom. I missed the first day, I'm usually late to everything, but I'll get the rest.

Wednesday (Oct. 2) - was "One of those days..." I talked about how Josh didn't "wanna hear it" when I told him he had a doctor's appointment. How do we, as parents of an adult with an intellectual disability handle the balance between autonomy and health? Thursday (Oct. 3) - I talked about how Josh LOVES the WWE! Lots of pictures and the story of how we discovered that Josh is afraid of heights at a Toronto Blue Jay's game. |
Friday (Oct. 4) - featured one of my favorite stories of "awareness" and inclusion. I wrote about how Josh was involved in a research project where he took part in a university course on "Disability and Society." If you missed this one, I recommend checking out the essay by one of Josh's peers. It's an interesting insight into how Josh changed attitudes and taught his friends about Down syndrome.
Saturday (Oct. 5) - was a quick post on a few of his favorite things. Three List.ly lists of Josh's top picks in movies, television, and of course, rock and roll!

What's next?
As Down syndrome awareness month charges on, I'll be looking to try some new things. I have a couple participants lined up to have conversations about how advocacy has changed (or not) over the years. As parents of adults who have Trisomy 21, we can share stories about what it was like "back in the day," what our current challenges are, and what we hope to accomplish going forward. Anyone who would like appear as a guest on my radio blog, please contact me.
Next weekend is the Boardwalk Buddy Walk, in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Josh and I will be supporting Team EthanNation with the Saylors!
Happy Down syndrome Awareness Month everyone!
