I'm very new to this whole blogging thing. I'd love to find out more about who else has been called to blog and why you do it. If you'd like to share an introductory blog with me and my readers, please add it to the list below.

My Story
In 1987 I met my best friend. My son Josh changed my life in ways I would never have imagined. He introduced me to a wide range of people, some great, some not so good. He was never a "problem" or a "challenge" but dealing with other people's reaction to him often was. The one thing I've learned over the years is that we all do the best we can with what we know. It's our responsibility to continue to learn, grow, and broaden the experience of others when we can.
This site is dedicated to sharing the little things - daily interactions and favorite stories - the things that make Josh my favorite person and not just a diagnosis.
By the way - my name is Stephanie.

Since then, I've been thrust back into the world of advocacy/activism. Most of what I've posted lately has to do with Ethan Saylor and my reaction to his death in January. If you haven't heard about him you can find some of the story here.
I do still write about Josh. (He's my favorite topic.) He's a wanna be rock star, and if you ask him, a "ladies man." He loves anything having to do with the WWE, especially the Divas. He's crazy about musicals and Johnny Depp... which makes "Cry Baby" his all time favorite movie, but I'd bet Grease and Annie are way up there too. Much to my surprise, he also like horror movies. (Yuk!) He owns most, if not all, of the Halloween and Friday the 13th DVDs. On any given day, he can appear dressed in costume - looking like one of his favorite 80's rock stars (Michael Jackson, Dee Snider, etc...) and his latest move is to cut all the fingers out of every glove he can find in order to complete the ensemble.

He turned 26 in January, but he'll tell you he's "older than dirt." He's the center of my world, and my "partner." (We consider ourselves a team.) As for me? I've worked in medical insurance claims, auditing and training. When Josh hit middle school age I went back to college full-time. Partly because I needed to be home when he was, and partly to re-prioritize my own life. Right now I guess you could say I'm concentrating on being here for Josh, and still figuring out what I'm supposed to be when I grow up. |
My interests include: my cats (I currently have 4, Josh has 2), crafts, scrapbooking, 80's music (yes, I love the Bee Gees, Air Supply, and Rick Springfield and I get tons of grief about it), my favorite TV shows currently - Sons of Anarchy and Scandal and I've seen every episode of Star Trek - The Next Generation. (Wow - that's totally a Geek Award winning description) |
This blog/site, like me, is a work in progress. I tend to say what feel. My 'polite' filter is... hit or miss. I try not to offend anyone as a general rule, but if something I say rubs you the wrong way, please feel free to tell me about it. I'm also learning the technology to support this venture as I go, so please tell me if something doesn't work.
That's enough about us for now - Who are you and why are you here? Let's talk.
